chroma

See the blog entry about this, if you don't already know the genesis of the thing. :)

It all spawned from the 500 Pencils website, and if you are a color-lover, you really should sign up for a subscription. I'm still drooling over the prospect of 500 colors with intriguing names with which to be inspired...and create. Bottles of scent are $15US, and single patterns are $3, delivered electronically.

12/19 NOTE: I'm still trying to export the pattern as a PDF, but should have it fixed by Monday. Please note that patterns ordered between today and Monday may not arrive in your email until then. (I'm so *not* a techno-goddess at the moment.)

Scent One: Lobster Bisque
Lobster Bisque

When this idea came to mind, the first thing someone said was that they weren't quite sure they wanted to smell like Lobster Bisque (one of the pencils' colors). Undaunted by the literal, I mentioned that soup pretty much equates with winter, and lobsters come from Maine, so something that smelled like the idea of a winter in Maine would be a little slice of awesome.

Several hours later, Lobster Bisque (and Chroma in general) was born.

LOBSTER BISQUE
Crunching snow underfoot, warm woolen mittens, dry and bare branches of black pine and evergreen spruce, all with the backdrop of the ocean lingering behind and just the slightest wafting of woodsmoke from cast-iron stoves. Made in large part from locally-derived essential oils in an organic jojoba base.

With the purchase of a bottle, you get the Lobster Bisque sock pattern for FREE. (Or you can just get the pattern, too. See below.)

Or just the pattern:

Scent Two: Mermaid's Dress
mermaid's dress

I hadn't planned on diving back in as quickly as it happened, but when I saw this yarn and colorname, it had to be done.

The scent is watery and blue and sophisticated, much like the undulating ripples in the sock pattern that reminded me of mermaid's tails and long, ruffled dresses.

MERMAID'S DRESS
Imagine an underwater ball, wet and blue and green, with sparkling wine-scented notes in the air, and sprays of orange blossoms scattered around. Waving fronds of greenery catch at the dancers' heels, and sweet, glittering flowers made of spun sugar are in everyone's hair. Very feminine without being traditionally floral, watery without the ozone, and green without the forest.

Or just the pattern:

Patterns is delivered via email, and may take a day or two if I'm not at the computer. :)

STAY TUNED for the next scent and pattern, when inspiration strikes again! (and the blister from all this knitting goes away....)
